Is Macbeth really to blame for Duncan’s murder? ‘Macbeth’ is a tragic play that dramatizes the tragic flaw (hamartia) of ambition and murderous intent in Macbeth, which is manipulated by his equally ambitious wife and the inherently evil witches, which leads him to murder Duncan. The fact that this play is a tragedy suggests that it is intentional for the audience to feel sympathetic towards Macbeth. This is why Shakespeare focuses some of the blame on the witches and his wife. Lady Macbeth first impression is ambitious, manipulative and very intelligent from the quotation â€Å"Thy letters have transported me beyond this ignorant present, and I feel now the future in the instant† which shows us that she has already begun planning for the future.
